Spark makes the Rugby World Cup free for customers – is this a good deal for broadband?

Spark has announced that the Rugby World Cup 2019 Tournament Pass will be free for new or renewing customers on an eligible mobile or broadband plan.

Spark customers who have already paid for a Tournament Pass may now be eligible for a refund.

Sounds like a great deal? Broadband customers will need to commit to a 12 month unlimited broadband plan with Spark, so before you hit the ‘sign up’ button, we suggest comparing broadband options to make sure you are getting the best deal for you.

Who is eligible for the free offer?

Spark have said that the following customers are eligible for a free Rugby World Cup Tournament Pass:

Broadband customers: Customers who sign up to a 12 month Unlimited broadband plan or a Rural Wireless 240GB Wireless plan are eligible. This is for either new customers, or existing customers who are out of contract and sign up to a new 12 month term)

Mobile customers: New or existing customers on a pay monthly plan that costs $59.99 or above, who purchase a mobile device above the value of $199 on interest-free payments (24 month term), will get a free Rugby World Cup 2019 Tournament Pass from Spark.

Business mobile customers: who sign up to a pay monthly plan at $60.86 or above (either new or existing customers) on a 24 month business plan are eligible

Business broadband customers:  who sign up to an Unlimited Business Bundle or Unlimited Naked plan (either new customers, or existing customers who are out of contract and sign up to a 12 month term)

Customers who have already purchased a Tournament Pass separately and want to take up this Spark offer can simply contact Spark Sport to cancel their existing pass and receive a refund – and then take up the Spark offer.

How does this compare to other broadband plans?

These offers are in addition to the early bird standalone Spark Sport pricing that is already available to anyone in the market, regardless of who your broadband provider is.

The early bird deal is $79.99 for all 48 matches live and on demand, until 10 September 2019.

If you’re keen to make sure you can stream the Rugby World Cup, we recommend taking a moment to compare broadband options – you may end up with a better deal if you stay with another broadband provider and pay for the early bird deal to stream the games.

For example:

Spark’s Unplan Fibre 100 120GB+ plan currently starts from $89 per month, a total of $1068 per year on a 12 month contract.

Or, Slingshot are currently offering unlimited fibre 100 starting at a low rate of $42.48 per month for the first 6 months, a total of $764.58 per year on a 12 month contract. Both deals include a free router.

The saving of $303.42 over 12 months with Slingshot would easily pay for rugby world cup earlybird deal, plus drinks and snacks for the games.

Specific deals will depend on what’s available at your address – compare the options and make an informed choice about broadband for the Rugby World Cup.
